Brother HL-5070N Has Been Discontinued

Brother has already discontinued the production of the HL-5070N. Fortunately, this piece of equipment is still being sold online at a price of $128. The parts to keep it running or also being sold online such as the toner cartridge, drum kit and the optional tray.

This produces sharp text at 600 x 600 dots per inch resolution. However, you can increase its resolution to the maximum 2400 x 600 so you can enjoy the high quality graphics it can produce, in grayscale of course. It prints at a rate of 17 pages per minute. This is roughly 3 seconds per page. The first page however, will take you 12 seconds as it still warms up the printer.

This printer is very suitable as a network printer since it already has a built in 10/100 BaseT Ethernet print server. This allows multiple users to have access to your printer. With the Rendezvous technology, you can easily configure this printer to your network automatically with just turning it on. Aside from the Ethernet, it also offers connectivity via USB or Parallel port. The USB being the practical choice since most systems today already have the standard USB port, may they be desktops or laptops.

This printer offers paper handling flexibility. This is empowered by the standard tray capable of holding 250 sheets and a multipurpose tray with 50 sheet capacity. The multi-purpose will be used whenever you need to print on different media aside from your usual letter or legal bonds. This can be envelopes, transparencies or other custom-sized paper, provided it fits the slot. With an additional cost of $125, you can increase its capacity further with the LT5000, an optional lower tray which also caters to most of Brother’s printers. That brings the total capacity to 550 sheets which you can find very useful when you have larger printing needs.

It is also very economical since you can purchase the High Yield Toner Cartridge online for $60. Since this is good for 6,500 pages, this can bring your printing cost at 0.92 cents per page, excluding of course the initial cost of the printer.

It is very easy to setup since it is already compatible with Windows and Mac OS. Brother has made it a point to make it easy for consumers to set it up by providing the necessary drivers needed. This removes the need for having to contact customer support. It is even easy to setup this printer with different operating systems.

With the printing speed this printer operates, it cannot be avoided to produce some noise. It’s rated at about 50dB which is about the same noise level as a running refrigerator. So if you have one at home, you won’t even notice its printing.

There are complaints about jamming albeit not that many. So as an advice, it would be good to have a demo printing before the purchase. See if you would notice any crinkles along the side that would somehow be a problem in the long run. Some users were able to go more months without jamming. You deserve no less.
